Mitchell JVs build early lead, top Polk County

Mitchell built a 29-17 halftime lead and held off Polk County for a 45-33 victory in Friday’s Western Highlands Conference junior varsity boys basketball action in Bakersville.

The Mountaineers led 40-22 after three quarters before the Wolverines (3-13) outscored Mitchell 11-5 in the final period.

Brennan Oates led Polk County with 11 points. RJ Simpson added eight, Keyan Simpson scored seven, Dre Thompson finished with three, and Josh Jarrett and Carlos Oliviera each added two.

Polk County is scheduled to host Mountain Heritage on Tuesday.
