Defensive-minded Polk JVs shackle Mountain Heritage

Polk County held Mountain Heritage scoreless in the third quarter and pulled away for a 27-22 victory in Thursday’s Western Highlands Conference junior varsity boys basketball action at Polk.

The Wolverines (4-13) outscored the Cougars 10-0 in the third quarter to take a 19-10 lead into the final period. Mountain Heritage (5-8) rallied with 12 fourth-quarter points, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Keyan Simpson led Polk County with nine points. Brennan Oates added seven, including five in the third quarter. Carlos Oliviera scored four, Jackson Blotner finished with three and Gabe Stansbury and Matt Jarrett each added two.
