Avery JVs rally to top Polk in season finale

Avery outscored Polk County 26-6 in the middle two quarters to pull away for a 43-25 victory in Monday’s Western Highlands Conference junior varsity boys basketball matchup, closing out the Wolverines’ regular season.

Polk County (4-17) led 12-5 after the first quarter before being held scoreless in the second period as Avery took a 17-12 halftime advantage. The Eagles outscored the Wolverines 12-6 in the third quarter and 14-7 in the fourth to secure the victory.

Brennan Oates led Polk County with 10 points. Keyan Simpson added eight, Carlos Oliviera scored three, Tallis Metcalf finished with two, and Matt Jarrett and Jonathan Sokil each added one.
