Avery JVs race away late to top Polk County

Avery County pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Polk County 60-39 in Tuesday’s Western Highlands Conference junior varsity boys basketball game.

The Vikings outscored the Wolverines 21-5 in the final period to break open a 39-34 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Jackson Blotner led Polk County (2-10) with 15 points. Brennan Oates and Keyan Simpson each added eight, RJ Simpson scored four, and Dre Thompson and Carlos Oliviera each finished with two.

Polk County hosts Mitchell on Wednesday in another Western Highlands Conference matchup.
