Polk County senior Kara Overholt has verbally committed to play volleyball at Coker College in Hartsville, S.C.
Overholt, the Western Highlands Conference player of the year, finished her senior season with 816 assists, that total ranking 10th-best in the state according to MaxPreps. She handled 1,571 balls during the season with just 17 errors. She finished fourth on the team in digs, second in blocks, led the team in aces with 64 and was also third on the team in kills with 126.
Overholt helped lead Polk County to a share of the WHC regular-season title and the third round of the state 2A playoffs. She also earned all-conference honors in basketball and is the starting goalkeeper for Polk County’s WHC champion girls soccer squad.

Coker, which competes in the South Atlantic Conference, finished 5-25 last season with a roster that included just two seniors. The Cobras named a new head coach, Julia Rafalowski, in February.
Overholt will become the eighth Polk County senior to sign to play college athletics, joining Mark Mazzilli (Brevard College baseball), Alivia Livesay (Wittenburg College tennis), Allison Swope (Lenoir-Rhyne cross country, track), Shelby Wells (Louisburg cross country, track), Jordan Smith (Brevard College football), D.J. Twitty (Methodist College football) and Sammie Firby (Gardner-Webb soccer).
