Recent Polk County graudate Gunnar Alm has been named a first-team selection on the MaxPreps 2026 Small Town All-America Team, becoming a two-time honoree on the list highlighting the top high school baseball players at small schools across the country.
The team recognizes 60 of the top players at schools with an enrollment under 1,000 students in a town with a population under 10,000.
Alm, an outfielder, batted .451 this season with 50 runs, 33 RBI, 11 home runs, three doubles and two triples. He helped lead Polk County to a 17-10 record, a Western Highlands Conference championship and a third-round finish in the 3A state playoffs.

The honor adds to an already decorated senior season for Alm, who was also named the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association 3A Player of the Year and earned a spot on the NCBCA’s inaugural all-classification all-state team.
Alm has signed with North Carolina State and has already moved in and begun working out with the Wolfpack program.
He is also expected to hear his name called this weekend at the Major League Baseball Draft, which would make him just the second Polk County graduate to be selected. Former Wolverine standout Joel Booker is the only other wolverine to be drafted, taken in the 22nd round of the 2016 draft by the Chicago White Sox.
