Friday proved a good day for Polk County’s track and field program as the Polk girls win the Wolverine Co-Ed Classic and the Polk boys claimed second in competition in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
The Wolverine girls scored 106 points to top a five-team field that included runner-up T.C. Roberson and conference rivals R-S Central and Chase. Polk’s boys finished behind T.C. Roberson in a seven-team boys field.
Polk County freshman Sophia Overholt had two victories, winning the 400-meter dash and the long jump, her leap of 15-11 good enough to qualify for the 2A West Regional.
Olivia Overholt won the 800 meters in 2:28.15, and Polk County’s girls won the 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800-meter relays.
Avia Cunningham won the girls shot put with a throw of 28-9 and took second in the discus.
Mark Teague won the 1600-meter run and Bryce Jergenson took in second in the 400-meter dash to lead the Wolverine boys.
Polk County is next scheduled to compete March 25 in the FCA Relays at T.C. Roberson.
