Polk County continued its recent torrid offensive play on Monday, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth to outlast North Henderson 11-8 in a non-conference girls softball slugfest in Hendersonville.
The Knights (4-3) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. But Autumn Owen’s double off the top of the outfield fence brought home the winning run and sparked the eighth-inning rally.
The Wolverines (6-1) had 13 hits in the game, building a 6-4 lead after three innings, then adding two runs in the top of the sixth to extend the advantage to 8-4.

Leadoff hitter Haley Fowler hit her first career home run and finished 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, a stolen base and four runs to lead Polk County. Hayley Kropp was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles, Maranda Gosnell finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double and Owen finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles.
Ansley Lynch was also 2-for-4 with a steal and Morgan Stott was 1-for-3 and scored three runs.
Polk County returns home Tuesday to host Avery in a Western Highlands Conference game at 4:30 p.m.
