Wolverines ranked 10th in 2A state softball coaches poll

Polk County is ranked 10th in the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association preseason state 2A poll.

The Wolverines, defending Western Highlands Conference champions, return five all-WHC players in Haley Fowler, Maranda Gosnell, Autumn Owen, Hayley Kropp and pitcher of the year Ashley Scruggs.

South Granville earned the top ranking in the preseason poll. Franklin, which eliminated Polk County in last year’s state 2A playoffs, is ranked fourth.

Under new head coach Billy Alm, Polk County opens its season March 3 at North Buncombe.
