Polk County pounded out 13 hits Tuesday en route to a 13-0 five-inning win over Avery in Western Highlands Conference softball action in Newland.
The Wolverines (13-1, 8-0) maintained their two-game conference lead over Madison, which handed Owen a 10-2 loss on Tuesday.
Autumn Owen went 3-for-3 with a homer to lead the Wolverine offense. Ashley Scruggs, Kassidy Reynolds and Maddy Foy each had two hits, with Foy doubling in the win. Polk County built a 10-0 lead after three innings and added three more runs in the fourth to set the stage for the shortened game.

Scruggs held the Vikings to four hits while striking out seven to earn her 13th win. Avery dropped to 5-6, 2-6 with the loss.
“We played really well,” said Polk County head coach Jeff Wilson. “We made some great plays on defense and I thought Scruggs pitched well.”
Polk County returns to the road on Wednesday, journeying to Mitchell for another conference game.
