Polk County erupted for nine runs in the final three innings Tuesday to take a 10-4 win over Avery in Western Highlands Conference softball action in Newland.
Tied at 1 through four innings, the Wolverines (8-5, 4-2) scored six runs in the top of the fifth, then added three more in the seventh in snapping a four-game losing streak.
Hayley Kropp led the Wolverine attack, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and driving in four runs. Haley Fowler, Autumn Owen and Morgan Stott each had two hits as Polk County had 12 hits in the game.

Ashley Scruggs struck out six and allowed four hits in earning the win.
Polk County returns to the road Wednesday, traveling to Mountain Heritage for another WHC game before coming home Friday to face Owen in a key conference matchup.
