Polk County’s freshman trio pounded out nine of the Wolverines’ 14 hits Monday in leading Polk County to an 11-2 victory over Asheville in a non-conference meeting in Asheville.

Haley Fowler, Maranda Gosnell and Autumn Owen each had three hits as the Wolverines improved to 6-1 overall.

Asheville grabbed an early 2-0 lead, but Polk County responded with five runs in the second, built the lead to 7-2 and then scored four runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Polk County head coach Jeff Wilson cited the defensive efforts of Ashley Kropp in a key rundown in the first inning and a run-saving stop by Gosnell.

Alexis McCraw and Hayley Kropp also had key hits for Polk County, which travels to Avery on Tuesday for a Western Highlands Conference battle.

Polk County JV 10, Asheville JV 3: Ashley Ponder, Karli Wood and Hannah Emory led the Wolverine attack in a 10-3 rout of the Cougars.

Caitlin Britton earned the win as Polk County improved to 4-2 heading into Thursday’s game at Owen.
