Ashley Scruggs fired a three-hitter Monday to help lead Polk County to a 1-0 win over North Buncombe in non-conference softball action at Polk.
Scruggs struck out three as the Wolverines improved to 18-3 overall. Polk County travels Tuesday to Hendersonville and can earn sole possession of the Western Highlands Conference regular-season championship with a win.
The Wolverines scored their lone run in the first inning as Autumn Owen reached on an error and scored on a Maranda Gosnell base hit.

“Kinsley Jackson and Hayley Kropp had stellar defensive games behind Scruggs, who really had a lot of movement and changing speeds working for her,” said Polk County head coach Jeff Wilson.
Maddy Foy had two hits, including a double, and Scruggs and Haley Fowler added singles.
