Scruggs’ gem carries Wolverines past Trailblazers

Ashley Scruggs fired a four-hitter Thursday, also striking out 11 as Polk County nipped the Asheville Trailblazers 2-1 in non-conference softball action at Polk.

Scruggs held Asheville scoreless until the seventh, when the Trailblazers scored their lone run.

Polk County (4-1) scored its runs in the second inning as Autumn Owen’s base hit drove home Haley Fowler and Hayley Kropp. The Wolverines had seven hits for the game.

Polk County returns to action on Friday, traveling to Mitchell for a Western Highlands Conference game.
