The Wolverines exploded for four runs in the first inning of the opening game, and winning pitcher Ashley Scruggs scattered four hits in six innings to make that lead stand. Scruggs struck out eight in the win.

Ashley Kropp and Brittany Jones each had two hits to lead Polk County’s offense in the opener.

Scruggs allowed just three hits and struck out 10 in a pitchers’ duel in the second game. The Trailblazers scored their lone run in the first before Polk answered with a run in the third to tie the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Alexis McCraw walked, then moved to second on a Polk groundout. Kinsley Jackson then drilled a two-out base hit to score McCraw with the winning run.

Kropp had two hits and Brandi Cordell and Carolyn Couch also had hits for Polk County, which returns to action on Wednesday at Asheville.
