Ashley Scruggs fired a three-hitter Wednesday and Maranda Gosnell had a spectacular offensive day to help lead Polk County to a 13-3 five-inning win over the Asheville Trailblazers in non-conference softball action in Asheville.
Scruggs struck out four as Polk County improved to 12-8. The Wolverines host Mitchell on Thursday in their Western Highlands Conference and regular-season finale.
Polk County built a 6-1 lead after three innings, added two runs in the fourth and then exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth to bring the 10-run rule into play.

Gosnell finished 4-for-4 with a double and homer, scored four runs and drove in four runs for Polk. Scruggs also went 4-for-4 with four RBI. The four hits tie a school record held by several players.
Hayley Kropp also homered and finished 3-for-4 with four RBI. Haley Fowler finished 3-for-4, Autumn Owen was 2-for-4 and Karli Wood singled and drove in a run. All nine Wolverine starters had at least one hit as Polk finished the game with 20 hits.
