Gaffney opened a 4-0 lead Monday, then held off a Polk County comeback en route to a 5-2 win over the Wolverines in non-conference girls softball action at Polk County Recreation Complex.
Trailing by four entering the bottom of the fourth, the Wolverines (9-6) scored, but could get no closer as Gaffney held Polk County to just three hits in the game.
The Indians (6-7) added a run in the top of the seventh for the final margin.

Haley Fowler doubled, scored a run and had two hits to lead Polk County’s offense. Autumn Owen scored the other run and finished 1-for-2 for the Wolverines.
Polk County travels Wednesday to face Hendersonville in Western Highlands Conference play.
The Wolverines also learned Monday that Friday’s suspended game with Owen will be completed this Friday at Owen. The two teams will complete the suspended game, which was tied 8-8 after eight innings, before playing their regularly scheduled game.
