Polk returns to winning ways, cruises past Owen

Bailey Staton scored 24 points Tuesday as Polk County defeated Owen 56-14 in Western Highlands Conference girls basketball action at Polk County.

The Wolverines (13-2, 4-2 WHC) built a 26-8 halftime lead and cruised to their 13th victory of the season, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Reeve Carroll added eight points for Polk County. Amiyah Waters scored seven, Exziah Staley and Charley Dusenbury each finished with five, Camdyn Israel-Garrett had three, and Sofie Abrahamsen and Lucy Tessnair each added two.

Owen fell to 1-17 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

Polk County travels to Brevard on Wednesday for a non-conference game.
