Wolverine defense sparks WHC win at Owen

Bailey Staton scored 31 points and Polk County recorded 21 steals Friday to remain unbeaten with an 80-17 victory over Owen in Friday’s Western Highlands Conference girls basketball opener.

The Wolverines (7-0, 1-0 WHC) built a 44-4 halftime lead and coasted to their seventh consecutive victory to open the season.

Amiyah Waters added 18 points, 12 rebounds and five steals for Polk County. Honesty Jackson contributed nine points, Camdyn Israel-Garrett scored eight, Reeve Carroll had seven, Charley Dusenbury finished with three, and Jeri Allen and Amber Chupp each added two.

The Wolverines connected on 10 3-pointers in the game.

Owen fell to 0-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
