Polk County senior Bailey Staton has been named the All-Western North Carolina Girls Basketball Player of the Year by the Citizen-Times in Asheville.
Staton averaged more than 27 points per game in leading Polk County to a 20-7 record and the third round of the state 3A playoffs. She finished in the top 10 in the state in scoring, 2-point field goals made and 3-pointers made.
Staton finished her career as the Wolverines’ scoring leader, surpassing 2,000 points, while also moving into the top 20 in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for career 3-pointers.

Staton, who has signed to continue her career at Converse University, is Polk County’s first All-WNC first-team selection since Hayley Kropp in 2016.
Rounding out the All-WNC girls basketball first team were Cherokee’s Madison Rogers and Dvdaya Swimmer, Pisgah’s Chandler Lowery and McDowell’s Khloe Joyner.
