Polk County's Holden Owens

Wolverines unable to solve Madison pitching in setback

2 min read

Another Tuesday, another quality pitching outing from a Polk County opponent.

One week after Owen’s Brady Parker kept Wolverine hitters at bay, Madison’s Trystan Jones did the same, allowing just two hits in the Patriots’ 11-1 five-inning win at Polk.

Holden Owens had both of those hits for the Wolverines (4-10, 1-5) as Madison (9-3, 6-1) remained in sole possession of first place in the Western Highlands Conference standings.

Jones struck out three and did not walk a batter in his five innings of work.

The Patriots scored four runs in the first inning, keyed by Ty Roberts’ three-run double to deep right-center, then added seven runs in the third to give Jones all the support he needed. Roberts also doubled in a run in the second and finished the night 2-for-3 with four RBI to lead Madison’s offense.

Polk County scored its lone run in the fifth inning as Owens doubled to open the inning, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Sedrick Pickett’s sacrifice fly to left field.

Owens also pitched an inning and two-thirds of hitless relief for the Wolverines.

Polk County returns to action Thursday, hosting West Henderson in a non-conference game slated for 6 p.m.
