Madison scored five runs in the second inning and pulled away from Polk County 12-2 in Thursday’s Western Highlands Conference junior varsity baseball game in Marshall.
Polk County (2-10) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Drew Young singled, advanced to third on Oakley Whiteside’s single and scored on a steal of home while Whiteside was caught stealing second.
Madison answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead, then broke the game open with five runs in the second to go ahead 7-1. The Patriots added four more runs in the third to extend the advantage to 11-2 and scored once in the fifth.

Polk County’s second run came in the third inning when Young singled, moved to second on a walk to Whiteside and scored on Acer Eadus’s RBI single to make it 7-2.
Young led Polk County with two hits in three at-bats and scored both runs. Whiteside went 1-for-2 and Eadus finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.
