Polk County scored 10 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 15-5 victory over North Henderson in Wednesday’s junior varsity baseball non-conference game at The Bottoms.
North Henderson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first before Polk County answered with 10 runs in the bottom half. The Wolverines sent 14 batters to the plate and took advantage of multiple walks and hit batters to seize control.
Oakley Whiteside walked to open the inning and Drew Young singled. After Asher Mullet walked to load the bases, Brady Carroll’s RBI single scored Whiteside. Simms Harris and Davis Holbert followed with walks to force in two more runs.

Acer Eadus also walked to bring home another run before Zayne McFalls’ two-run double made it 5-4. After RJ Simpson walked, Whiteside singled, Mullet delivered a two-run single one out later and Carroll reached on an error that allowed another run to score, giving Polk County a 10-4 lead.
The Wolverines added a run in the second and four more in the third to extend their lead to 15-4 before North Henderson scored once in the fifth.
Whiteside led Polk County with three hits, two runs, two RBI and a double. McFalls added two hits, including a double, with four RBI and two runs while Eadus contributed two hits including a double, three runs and an RBI.
Simpson and Carroll each finished with two hits, while Harris, Holbert and Josh Jarrett added one hit each. Jarrett doubled and Holbert scored two runs.
Harris earned the win, pitching four innings and allowing eight hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. Holbert pitched the fifth inning, allowing two hits with two strikeouts.
Polk County (1-4) hosts Owen on Friday in a Western Highlands Conference game.
