Burns JVs pull away in fifth to down Polk County

Burns scored seven runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Polk County 11-1 in Wednesday’s junior varsity baseball game at The Bottoms.

The Bulldogs led 4-1 entering the fifth inning before breaking the game open. Quinten Bowen delivered a two-run single and Mason Blanton added an RBI single in the rally.

Burns took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. John Arndt and Evin McCraken singled, and John Harrill added an RBI double. Bowen capped the inning with an RBI single.

Polk County scored its only run in the third inning when Simms Harris doubled and later scored on an RBI single by Drew Young.

Young led the Wolverines at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Harris finished 1-for-1 with a double, and Davis Holbert went 1-for-1.

Harris started on the mound for Polk County and took the loss. Matthew Foy pitched in relief.

Polk County (2-14) hosts Avery on Friday at 4 p.m.
