Edwards sparkles on mound to lead Polk Middle to extra-inning win

1 min read

Avery Edwards dominated Macon Middle on Tuesday, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits to lead Polk County Middle to a 2-1 eight-inning win at Polk County Recreation Complex.

Edwards walked just one in pitching a complete game. He struck out two batters in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to keep the Wolverines (5-2) in the game.

Macon Middle grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth without a hit, turning Edwards’ lone walk, a stolen base and two fly balls into a run.

That lead lasted until the seventh, when Polk County rallied to tie the game. Edwards reached on an error to open the inning, stole second and scored on Kaleb Kropp’s double.

Polk Coutnty then scored the winning run in the eighth in dramatic fashion. With Clark Phipps on third, Bryson Ridings dropped a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to plate Phipps with the winning run.

Polk County had three hits in the game, those by Phipps, Brandon Ridings and Kropp.

The Wolverines are off until April 13, when Waynesville Middle visits for a 4:30 p.m. game.
