Polk County continued its recent run of success Tuesday night, sweeping a talented Kings Mountain squad in a nonconference match at Polk County High School.
The Mountaineers entered with a 15-3 record, but Polk (13-7) controlled play much of the night en route to a 25-20, 25-22, 25-16 victory.
“I felt like we kept them out of their system,” said Polk County head coach Kelly Risley. “We were able to put some pressure on them and they made some mistakes. That’s hard to do against good teams.”

Sarah Phipps had 16 kills and seven digs for Polk County, while Rebecca Mitchell had 12 kills and four blocks and Baileigh Fisher and Addie Lynch each added six kills. Lilly Owens had 18 digs and four kills while setter kara Overholt had 50 assists, five blocks and seven digs.
Senior Cassidy Campbell also added key minutes for the team as Polk overcome the ongoing loss of Ashley Love, sidelined by a concussion suffered almost two weeks ago at Rosman.
“Cassidy has stepped up and done a great job,” Risley said. “She has worked hard and she has provided us with some blocking ability.”
Polk County returns to action on Thursday, hosting Owen in a Western Highlands Conference match. The final regular season home game, Polk will honor its senior players at the match.
