Monday roundup: Wolverines spike Tuscola on road

Polk County’s volleyball squad began the final stretch of its regular season with a nonconference victory, sweeping Tuscola in straight games in Waynesville.

The Wolverines earned a 25-10, 25-14, 25-9 win. Junior Sarah Phipps had 11 kills and four aces and Addie Lynch had five kills for Polk. Kara Overholt added 30 assists, five digs and four kills.

Polk County also took a 2-0 win in junior varsity action.

Now 12-7 with wins in four of their last five matches, the Wolverines return home Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. clash with Kings Mountain. Polk then hosts Owen on Thursday for Senior Night before closing out the regular season next Tuesday at Hendersonville.

Girls Tennis
Hendersonville earned a key Western Highlands Conference win, downing Polk County 6-3 in action at Jackson Park.

For Polk, Alivia Livesay earned a 10-5 win at No. 1 singles and Mackenzie McCool won 10-5 at No. 4. McCool and Alli Halbkat teamed for an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles.

The two teams meet again Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Polk County High School.

Middle School Boys Soccer

Polk County Middle suffered a tough 2-1 overtime loss to Hendersonville Middle in a game that decided the Blue Ridge Middle School Conference Eastern Division title.

Now 7-2-1, Polk Middle wraps up its regular season on Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. match at home against Flat Rock.
