Grand performance: Hall reaches 1,000 digs in win over Enka

Kendall Hall had no idea Monday night why Polk County head volleyball coach Molly Hill had decided to address the crowd midway through the Wolverines’ match with Enka.

Her first guess? Unruly parents.

Not on her list – being recognized for an on-court achievement.

Hall recorded the 1,000th dig of her career during the second set of Polk County’s 3-1 win over Enka. The milestone dig came on a typical Hall play, the Polk sophomore racing into the corner near the back end line to keep a ball in play.

Quietly keeping an eye on Hall’s total throughout the first two sets, Hill pumped a fist in celebration after Hall’s shot, then addressed the crowd as soon as the point ended.

“I had no clue,” Hall said of reaching the mark. “When Coach Hill came out and began her announcement I thought she was going to yell at some parents or something.

“I’m really proud of myself, and I know my coach is proud of me, and that makes me feel good.”

Polk County’s record book lists no mark for career digs – digs are recorded when a player saves an opponent’s attacking shot before it hits the ground – but it’s safe to say that if Hall doesn’t already own the mark, she’ll likely soon do so. She finished Monday’s game with 25 digs and now has 1,016 for her career.
