Overholt to join Lenoir-Rhyne track, cross country programs

Polk County senior Olivia Overholt has verbally committed to run cross country and track and field at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Overholt and teammate Tori Thompson will hold a signing ceremony next week at Polk County High School to make their commitments official. Thompson plans to compete in both sports at Belmont Abbey College.

As a cross country runner, Overholt qualified for state meet competition three times in her career. She placed 20th in the state 2A meet in November.

Overholt placed fifth in the 500-meter run at February’s state 2A/1A indoor championships, matching her finish in the 2020 indoor meet. At last spring’s state 1A outdoor meet, she placed second in both the 800 and 1600-meter runs.

Overholt was part of Polk County’s state championship 4×400-meter relay team in 2019 and has won multiple conference championships in her Polk County career.

As a basketball player, Overholt became just the fifth Polk County female to surpass the career 1,000-point mark, finishing with 1,033 points.
