2-point conversion proves difference as East Rutherford JVs top Polk

1 min read

A missed 2-point conversion proved the difference Thursday as East Rutherford’s junior varsity took a 16-14 win over Polk County at G.M. Tennant Stadium.

The Wolverines (3-2) matched touchdowns with the Cavaliers, but East converted both of its 2-point attempts to snap Polk County’s three-game winning streak.

Polk County scored its touchdowns on a pair of short runs by Casey Beiler. The first score, in the first quarter, evened the score at 8-8 after Beiler tossed a pass to Nathan Mann for the 2-point conversion.

East scored early in the third quarter to take a 16-8 lead, but the Wolverines immediately answered, driving for a possession that ended in Beiler’s 5-yard touchdown run. But the Cavaliers stopped a Beiler pass on the 2-point try, providing the eventual margin of victory.

Polk also had a second-quarter drive end with a turnover inside the East Rutherford 5.

The Wolverines return to the road on Thursday, traveling to Madison for their Western Highlands Conference opener.
