Ashley Kropp reached on an error to open the seventh, and back-to-back walks to Maddy Foy and Kassidy Reynolds loaded the bases with one out. Brandi Cordell then singled to score one run. Kinsley Jackson delivered a sacrifice fly to center to drive home Foy, and Hayley Kropp’s two-out single brought home Reynolds with the final run.
Ashley Scruggs picked up the win with a stellar effort on the mound, allowing two hits and striking out 11 with no walks.
The win, combined with Mountain Heritage’s loss to Madison, moved Polk County into a tie with Mountain Heritage for second place in the WHC standings. The teams are expected to break that tie via coin flip or draw at a conference meeting on Thursday to determine which team will be the conference’s second seed and which team the third seed for playoff purposes.
