Rice stymies Polk bats to lead Madison to victory

Savannah Rice fired a two-hitter Friday to lead Madison to a 7-0 win over Polk County in Western Highlands Conference softball play at Polk.

Rice, a Western Carolina signee, struck out 15 as Madison improved to 6-0 overall, 4-0 in WHC play. Polk dropped to 3-4, 2-2.

Morgan Stott and Ansley Lynch each had singles for the Wolverines.

Brooklyn Franklin homered to open the game for Madison, and the Patriots upped the lead to 4-0 in the third inning on Alex Baker’s three-run homer. The Patriots picked up two more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Polk County concludes its five-game homestand on Tuesday, hosting Owen in another WHC clash.
