With each base hit in the final inning Friday evening, Polk County’s junior varsity softball squad grew that much louder, their cheers and shouts breaking the silence of an otherwise calm twilight at Polk County High School.
The Wolverines kept hitting and kept making noise, rattling the dugout fence as run after run crossed the plate.
You would never have known that Polk County began the inning facing a 14-run deficit.

Encouraged by head coach Jeff Wilson to go out and score five runs, the Wolverines did just that, with Hannah Emory’s base hit driving in what proved to be the final tally in a 21-12 loss to the Asheville Trailblazers.
Don’t let the final score of a chilly evening fool you – Polk County never gave up, fighting hard throughout, especially in the final inning to drop the deficit to under 10 runs.
Katelyn Allison finished 3-for-4 to lead Polk County’s offense.
The Wolverines are slated to be back in action on Monday as Polk County travels to East Rutherford.
