Polk County High School’s bass fishing team continued its impressive fall with a seventh-place showing Saturday in the first event of the 2021-22 Western North Carolina BASS High School and Junior Series.
Fishing at Lake Tillery in Stanly County and Montgomery County, Polk County Fishing’s team of Chan and Banks Barber caught four fish weighing a total of 8.09 pounds, with a top fish weighing 4.19 pounds.
Rowan County Youth Fishing placed three teams in the top five, with its top team winning the tournament with a limit of five fish weighing 13.88 pounds. A team from Riley’s Catch, a nonprofit that works with students through fishing, placed second with a limit of 11.19 pounds.
Some 50 teams competed in the event.
The series will hold its next tournament on October 30 at High Rock Lake.
