Polk’s Jenne claims conference singles championship

Polk County sophomore Hannah Jenne capped an outstanding first season as a Wolverine by winning the Western Highlands Conference singles championship during last week’s conference tournament at Avery.

Jenne capped an undefeated season in singles play with a 10-2 victory over Hendersonville’s Annabelle Webb in the tournament final. She defeated Hendersonville’s Christine Donaldson 10-2 in her opening match, then knocked off Hendersonville’s Hamrick Perry 10-5 in the semifinals.

Jenne qualified for Friday’s 2A West Regional at Gardner-Webb with her finish. She is the second Wolverine to win a WHC singles championship in the past three seasons, with Alivia Livesay earning the WHC crown in 2014.

Polk County freshman Tana Harris earned an opening-round win over Avery’s Morgan Paris, 10-4, but dropped a 10-2 decision to Webb in her next match.

Polk County’s doubles team of Haven Dufford and Alicia Twitty earned an 8-4 win in the opening match, but dropped an 8-5 decision to Owen’s Jaiden Tweed and Ashley Valencia in their next match. Teammates Bella Marino and Trinity Branham also won their opener, 8-2, before falling to Tweed and Valencia 8-2.
