Hendersonville shows potential in topping Polk County

Polk County girls tennis coach Richard Davis thinks Hendersonville could win the state 2A team title this season.

The Bearcats showed why Thursday.

Hendersonville posted a 7-1 win over the Wolverines in a non-conference match at Polk County.

The Bearcats won five of the day’s six singles matches, including a thriller at No. 1 singles, where McCollough Perry, last year’s runner-up in the state 2A singles tournament, rallied from an early deficit to nip Polk County’s Hannah Jennne 11-10 (7-1).

Polk County’s Julia Griffin won a hard-fought match with Hendersonville’s Hamrick Perry 10-5 for the Wolverines’ only point.

Polk County (1-1) is back in action Wednesday, traveling to T.C. Roberson.
