Reeve Carroll’s early free kick and Gabby Savaia’s second-half goal lifted Polk County to a 2-2 draw with East Rutherford in Thursday’s non-conference girls soccer match in Bostic.
Carroll gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the third minute, curving a free kick from about 25 yards out that beat the goalkeeper to her right.
East Rutherford (6-3-1) answered in the 19th minute with a goal from a low cross finished from six yards out, then took a 2-1 lead just after halftime with another goal from a low cross in the 46th minute.

Polk County equalized in the 75th minute when Charley Dusenbury beat a defender to a goal kick, took a dribble and passed to Savaia at the top of the box. Savaia dribbled around a defender and hit a left-footed shot on the ground that hit the far post and went in.
“They had much more of the possession throughout the match,” Polk County head coach Lennox Charles said. “We worked hard and showed determination to get the result.”
Starting goalkeeper Cate Brown missed the match due to illness. Sofie Abrahamsen started in her place and, according to Charles, “did a very good job, along with the defense, keeping us in match.”
Polk County (4-1-4) travels to Avery on Monday for a Western Highlands Conference match.
