Wolverines blank Avery, earn fourth straight win
Sammie Firby scored two goals Friday night to lead Polk County to a 3-0 victory over Avery in Western Highlands Conference girls soccer action in Newland.
The 11th-ranked Wolverines (13-3, 7-1) earned their fourth straight win with the shutout. Polk County is now off until April 23, when Owen comes to Wolverine Stadium.
Ashley Love added a goal for Polk County, which got assists from Ellese Cash, Lyric Flood and Megan Clements.
Kara Overholt had five saves for the Wolverines.
