Charles named WHC coach of the year; five Wolverines make all-conference squad

Polk County girls soccer coach Lennox Charles has been named the Western Highlands Conference coach of the year, with five Wolverines named to the all-conference squad.

Charles led the Wolverines to a 19-6-1 record this season and a share of the WHC regular season title. Polk County reached the third round of the state 2A playoffs for the fifth consecutive season before dropping a 1-0 decision to Newton-Conover on Wednesday.

Four Polk County seniors and one junior were named to the all-conference squad. Those players included defenders Kayle McEntire and Jamie Greene, midfielder Lyric Flood and forwards Sammie Firby and Ellese Cash.

Owen’s Morgan Dale was named the conference player of the year, with Madison’s Linsday Froman named the goalie of the year.
