Polk County will open the state 2A girls soccer playoffs at home against Wilkes Central, according to final pairings released Monday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
The Wolverines (17-5-1) are seeded 11th in the 32-team 2A West bracket. Wilkes Central (9-9-2) is the 22nd seed.
Polk County would advance to face either No.6 Shelby or No. 27 Mount Pleasant in the second round.
Polk County shared the Western Highlands Conference title with Hendersonville and Owen, but earned the second seed from the league via a draw. Hendersonville, seeded as the league champion, is seeded eighth and will host R-S Central. Owen, meanwhile, is the 20th seed and will travel to Forbush in the first round.
Wilkes Central finished 9-3-2 and in third place in the Mountain Valley Conference play. Wilkes closed its season on Friday with a 4-0 win over North Wilkes.
