Asheville showed why Friday it is considered among the state’s top 3A girls soccer squads, downing Polk County 4-0 in a non-conference girls soccer match in Asheville.

The Cougars, ranked ninth in the latest state 3A coaches poll, improved to 20-3-2 with the win. Polk County is now 12-4.

Kara Overholt had 17 saves in the loss.

The Polk County junior varsity posted a 1-1 tie, the Wolverines getting a goal from Baylee Love, assisted by Cameron Capozzi.

Polk County travels to Hendersonville on Monday for a huge Western Highlands Conference matchup, with varsity play slated to begin around 7 p.m.
