Polk County senior goalkeeper Kara Overholt has been named the Times-News All-Area girls soccer player of the year, one of three Wolverines named to the all-area team.

In just her second season playing the sport, Overholt recorded 10 shutouts and had 161 saves in helping lead Polk County to the Western Highlands Conference championship. She had two key stops of penalty kicks in the Wolverines’ dramatic overtime win over defending state champion West Stokes in the second round of this year’s 2A playoffs.

The paper also named Sammie Firby and Ashley Love as All-Area selections. Firby led the Wolverines in scoring this season with 17 goals while Love finished with 16 goals. Both were all-conference selections as well.

Conference rival Hendersonville led area schools with four players on the team.
