Firby leads Polk girls past Burns, 3-1

Sammie Firby scored two goals as Polk County notched a 3-1 win Saturday over Burns in the Burns Showcase event in Lawndale.

Ashley Love added a goal as the Wolverines (3-2) won their second consecutive match. It marked the first loss of the season for Burns (5-1), which entered the game ranked 8th in the state in 3A girls soccer.

Jessica Bentley, Sarah Phipps, Love and Miriam Santibanez each had assists for Polk County. Kara Overholt had three saves.

The Wolverines return home on Monday to host Mountain Heritage in a 6 p.m. game.
