Brevard scored four goals, including two in the final eight minutes, to defeat Polk County 4-1 in Friday’s non-conference girls soccer action in Brevard.

Brevard took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when goalkeeper Cate Brown saved a shot from about 10 yards out, but the Blue Devils won the race to the rebound and scored from five yards out.

The Blue Devils extended their lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute, capitalizing on a transition opportunity after Polk County lost possession near Brevard’s box.

Reeve Carroll pulled Polk County within 2-1 in the 70th minute with a shot from about 25 yards out that sailed high past the goalkeeper’s right hand.

But Brevard answered with goals in the 74th and 78th minutes to pull away for the victory.

Brown finished with 14 saves for Polk County.

“We were actually better organized on defense than we were on Wednesday, but could not generate as much offense as we did,” said Polk County head coach Lennox Charles. “We had to work really hard to stay in the match, and we did.”

The Wolverines (0-1-1) open Western Highlands Conference play on Wednesday, traveling to Owen.
