Bailey Staton has made her college choice.
The Polk County senior guard has verbally committed to continue her basketball career at Converse University, with a signing ceremony set for Nov. 18 in the Polk County High School auditorium.
Staton had a handful of college offers from which to choose, but ultimately opted to join the Converse program. The Valkyries are a Division II program and compete in the 16-school Conference Carolinas.

Converse is currently coached by Kevin Lyons, named the interim coach for the 2025-26 season after former head coach Samantha Davidson left in July for another position.
Staton enters her final season ranked second on Polk County’s all-time girls scoring list and fourth overall with 1,385 points. She holds career records for 3-pointers and assists as well as the single-game record for 3-pointers.
Staton will be the second Polk County athlete to sign in November as baseball standout Gunnar Alm has scheduled a Nov. 12 signing with North Carolina State.
