Polk County nearly rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit before falling 47-43 Tuesday to Mitchell in a Western Highlands Conference matchup in Ledger.
The Mountaineers (2-4, 1-0) built a 33-17 lead at intermission and still led by 14 entering the final quarter, only to see Polk County (3-4, 1-1) pull within four by game’s end.
Hayley Kropp had 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead Polk County, which also got eight points from Autumn Owen, four points and eight rebounds from Mariah Overholt, four points from Kendall Hall, two points and seven rebounds from Ansley Lynch and one point from Alana Seay.

Polk County is back in action on Friday, hosting Mountain Heritage in another WHC battle.
