The parting gift that Polk County’s boys tennis team handed Hendersonville on Tuesday might not have been exactly what the Bearcats.
In the final Western Highlands Conference match between the two rivals before Hendersonville leaves the WHC at the end of this season, Polk County pulled out a 5-4 victory on a picture-perfect day on its home courts.
The Wolverines split the six singles matches, then captured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the win. Polk County improved to 4-8 overall, 1-6 in conference play with the triumph.

All three Wolverine singles wins were close, including Henry Monts’ thrilling 11-10 win over Christian Maxey at No. 1 singles. Malik Miller added a 10-8 at No. 3 and Seth Hardin pulled out a 10-8 victory at No. 6 to send the teams into doubles play tied at 3-3.
Monts and Payton Stott rolled to an 8-2 win and Miller and Rustin Muse did the same to secure Polk County’s triumph.
The Wolverines travel to East Henderson on Wednesday before returning home for their regular-season finale on Thursday against Mountain Heritage.
