1 min read

Wil Rimer’s goal six minutes into the first overtime session lifted Polk County to a 3-2 win Wednesday over Avery in Newland.

Keeping its Western Highlands Conference record intact, Polk County (8-3, 5-0) opened a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes. Nate Smart scored on an assist from Rimer and Rimer then tallied on a feed from Jeremy Allsbrook to give the Wolverines the early lead.

Polk narrowly missed some other scoring chances in the first half, and Avery (5-9, 4-4) capitalized, scoring twice in the second half to even the match.

Shortly before the end of regulation, Avery lost a player to a red card, giving Polk a man advantage, and the Wolverines made the most of the opportunity, Rimer again getting a pass from Allsbrook and netting the game-winner.

Winners of seven straight, Polk County will travel Wednesday to Owen for an important WHC clash.
