A second-half penalty kick proved the difference Monday as Brevard took a 3-2 win over Polk County in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference boys soccer match in Brevard.
The Blue Devils (3-8-2, 2-3) snapped a 2-2 halftime deadlock with the goal, then kept the Wolverines (2-8-1, 2-4) at bay for the rest of the half to secure the win.
Brevard tallied first in the match, but Polk County responded with a pair of goals, one from Ben Korzelius, the other from Evan Jones, to grab a 2-1 edge. Both goals came off assists from Emanuel Albaran.
The Blue Devils then got an equalizing goal late in the half to force the tie at intermission.
Polk County returns home Wednesday to face Patton in a 6 p.m. match. The encounter will also be shown live on NFHS Network.
