Polk Middle romps past Canton Middle in season debut

2 min read

Polk County Middle School’s soccer team kicked off its 2025 campaign in impressive fashion Monday, rolling to a 6-0 victory over Canton Middle in both teams’ season opener.

The Wolverines wasted little time asserting control, with Alec Fine opening the scoring in the seventh minute off an assist from Callaway Cameron. The early goal set the tone for what would become a commanding first-half performance.

Foster Meyer doubled the lead just three minutes later, capitalizing on Cameron’s headed pass over Canton’s high defensive line. Cameron then added a goal of his own in the 14th minute, finding the net with a 25-yard strike that sailed over the Canton goalkeeper.

The offensive onslaught continued as Julian Albarran netted two goals before halftime. His first came in the 23rd minute, showing quick reflexes to pounce on a rebound after Meyer’s initial shot was saved. Albarran struck again in the 29th minute, running onto Owen Justice’s through ball and finishing past the keeper’s left hand.

With a comfortable lead, Polk Middle utilized its bench extensively in the second half, rotating players while maintaining defensive organization. Cameron added a final goal in the 47th minute, dribbling through Canton’s defense before finishing from 10 yards out.

Polk County Middle will look to build on this momentum when they host Madison Middle on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
